What's Included in Every Sweep

A chimney sweep from A1 isn't just brushing the flue. Here's exactly what you get every time we show up — included in your sweep, never sold as add-ons.

Full Creosote & Soot Removal

Professional rotary brushes and HEPA-grade vacuums clear creosote, soot, and debris from cap to firebox — the buildup that causes chimney fires.

Drop Cloth Protection

Your home stays clean. We lay protective drop cloths from the entry to the fireplace before any work starts — nothing gets on your floors or furniture.

Visual Flue Inspection

Every sweep includes a full visual inspection — cracks, gaps, damaged liner sections, blockages. You see what we see and know the actual condition of your chimney.

Smoke Chamber & Damper Check

We check the smoke chamber, smoke shelf, and damper for blockages, creosote buildup, or wear that affects draft and performance — areas most sweeps skip.

Written Findings Report

You get a clear written summary of what we cleaned, what we found, and what needs attention (if anything). Photos included where helpful.

Honest Recommendations

If your chimney doesn't need extra work, we tell you that. No upselling, no fear tactics — just what your home actually needs. It's the standard our reviews are built on.

All of this is included in every sweep. No upcharges. No surprises. CSIA-certified work — built strong, built right.

Sweep Questions Answered

Cost, frequency, creosote, mess, prep — the questions we get asked most about chimney sweeps. Straight answers, no fluff.

How much does a chimney sweep cost in Cincinnati?

Standard chimney sweeps in the Cincinnati area typically range from $99 to $250 depending on chimney condition, accessibility, and fuel type. Wood stoves and gas systems have their own pricing. Check our specials page for current discounts, or call (513) 382-0530 for a free quote based on your specific setup.

How often should I get my chimney swept?

Most chimneys need a sweep once a year if you burn regularly, or every other year for light use. The NFPA and CSIA both recommend an annual inspection regardless of how often you use the fireplace. If you burn unseasoned wood or use the fireplace heavily, you may need sweeping more often — creosote builds up faster.

What is creosote and why is it dangerous?

Creosote is the tar-like residue that builds up inside your flue when wood smoke cools and condenses on the chimney walls. It's highly flammable — the leading cause of chimney fires in the U.S. Annual sweeps remove creosote before it reaches dangerous Stage 2 or Stage 3 buildup levels.

How long does a chimney sweep take?

Most sweeps take 45 to 90 minutes from arrival to clean-up. Heavily used chimneys, older systems, or hard-to-access flues can take longer. We give you a time estimate when you book so you can plan around it.

Will the sweep make a mess in my house?

No. We use HEPA-grade vacuums and lay protective drop cloths from your entryway to the fireplace before any work begins. The entire sweep happens inside a sealed system — your floors, walls, and furniture stay clean. If we make any mess, we clean it before we leave.

Do you sweep gas fireplaces and wood stoves too?

Yes. We service masonry wood-burning fireplaces, wood stoves, pellet stoves, and gas fireplaces. Gas systems still produce buildup that needs periodic cleaning and they should be inspected annually for safety, even if they look clean from the outside.

What if you find a problem during the sweep?

We tell you about it — with photos and a written summary. If it needs repair (cracked liner, damaged crown, missing cap, mortar issues), we'll quote the work but we won't pressure you to decide right then. Some problems can wait, some can't — we tell you straight which is which.

Do I need to do anything to prepare?

Not much. Don't use the fireplace for at least 24 hours before the appointment so everything is fully cool. Move any decorative items away from the hearth, and let us know about pets so we can be careful with doors. That's it — we handle the rest.
